After taking several visits, Terrion Arnold has found his new home. The cornerback is signing with the Seattle Seahawks, according to Jordan Schultz. Arnold met with the organization this past weekend.
The former first-round pick had been on the open market since clearing waivers following his departure from the Lions. Detroit decided to waive the cornerback after he was hit with felony charges stemming from an alleged revenge kidnapping plot. The former first-rounder turned himself in to police in June, and he is confined to his home except for work-related functions such as free agent workouts.
Arnold has denied any wrongdoing. He will still be subject to the Commissioner’s Exempt List. His arraignment hearing is set for August 1.
“It’s a situation where there’s other things that are surrounding it,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said of Arnold’s workout. “We’re aware of that. But we’re working through the situation right now. But it was a great visit. I really enjoyed meeting him, and I think he enjoyed being here, so we’ll see where it goes.”
Despite his legal issues, Arnold still attracted plenty of attention as a free agent. Along with the Seahawks, he took recent visits with the Texans, Saints and Giants. Ultimately, he decided to sign with the defending Super Bowl champs. As Schultz notes, Arnold is good friends with backup Seahawks QB Jalen Milroe, who “gave the organization positive reviews” about the cornerback and his fit with the team.
Arnold had a standout career at Alabama, leading to him being selected by the Lions with the 24th-overall pick in 2024. He started 15 of his 16 appearances as a rookie, finishing with 60 tackles and 15 passes defended. He added another 31 stops and eight passes defended in eight appearances this past season before he suffered a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery. Pro Football Focus has never been particularly fond of his performance, placing him toward the bottom of their positional rankings in each of his two NFL seasons. Still, his youth (he won’t turn 24 until March) and draft pedigree made him worthy of a flyer.
Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe will continue to lead the CB depth chart, but Arnold could emerge as a key backup in Seattle. The Seahawks are still navigating Riq Woolen‘s departure, with Noah Igbinoghene and Nehemiah Pritchett representing the two in-house options to replace the veteran.
Arnold will have a chance to show what he’s got throughout the preseason, but as mentioned above, his debut may be delayed if he’s hit with punishment from the NFL.
