    Jake Weatherald joins new team shortly after being dropped by Australia

    Ahead of Australia’s second Test match against Bangladesh, the national team opener Jake Weatherald has been confirmed to play in the 2027 season with the Warwickshire County Cricket Club. The English cricket club confirmed the star signing through an official press release on August 19. The Australian opener will be available for the Rothesay County Championship with Warwickshire.

    Jake Weatherald is one of the most prominent faces in domestic cricket who has scored tons of runs across different formats and teams. As Warwickshire prepares to fetch success from the 2027 season, they have bolstered their batting line-up by signing the Australia National Cricket Team batter.

    Jake Weatherald, a 31-year-old opener who is mostly known for his aggressive strokeplay, carries well-decorated domestic cricket stats. In First-Class cricket, he has scored 6,290 runs in 92 matches and 172 innings for an average of 37.66. In List A format, the left-handed batter batted in 50 innings to score 1,602 runs at a batting average of 33.37. And in his overall T20 career, the batter has recorded 2,324 runs in 97 innings.

    “Jake is a player we’ve admired for a long time. He is a proven performer who has scored heavily at the highest level and gives us additional strength at the top of the order,” said Warwickshire Performance Director James Thomas.

    Thomas also mentioned that Jake Weatherland had a significant season for Leicestershire this summer and could do well in England’s domestic cricket again with all of his experiences, keeping the next Ashes series in mind, which will be in England.

    “He scored runs for Leicestershire this summer and will be eager to come back to England and impress ahead of The Ashes next year. We think he will be a fantastic fit for our dressing room and an exciting player for our members and supporters to watch,” Jamesh Thomas added.

    The Australian cricket team opener sounds equally thrilled to join the Bears for the 2027 season. In his official statement, the opener mentioned that ahead of The Ashes, playing in England will be an exciting opportunity for him.

    “I enjoyed playing in England this year, so to have the opportunity to join the Bears ahead of The Ashes is really exciting. Warwickshire has a proud history and a talented squad, and I’m looking forward to contributing both on and off the field,” Jake Weatherland said.

    Australia team management dropped Jake Weatherald from the Test team

    Meanwhile, Jake Weatherland has been dropped from Australia’s Test team after a 9-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in Darwin. The batter, whose domestic career spans over a decade, so far remains mostly unimpressive for the national side.

    In Tests, the batter has scored 224 runs in 6 matches and 12 innings with only one half-century and a batting average of 20.36. Before being dropped from the team, he scored 23 and 0 in two innings against the Bangladesh cricket team.
