    Virender Sehwag’s son replicates father’s trademark back-foot punch in Delhi Premier League 2026 [Watch]

    Legendary former India opener Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir Sehwag replicated his father’s trademark back-foot punch while featuring for West Delhi Lions in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026. He played the shot in Match 35 against the New Delhi Tigers on Wednesday, August 19, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

    Chasing 196, Aaryavir opened alongside Krish Yadav (45 off 32 deliveries) and added 41 runs off 25 balls for the first wicket. The 18-year-old, playing his first game of the season, scored 22 off 14 deliveries, hitting four fours, with one coming via a back-foot punch.

    The DPL’s official Instagram account shared a video showing Aaryavir’s stroke alongside Sehwag’s back-foot punch against Ireland during the 2011 ODI World Cup, with the two looking remarkably similar.

    Meanwhile, speaking of the game, batting at No. 3, Nitish Rana smashed 50 off 23 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes. Skipper Ayush Doseja remained unbeaten on 64 off 33 balls, laced with seven fours and three sixes, as West Delhi Lions chased down the target with six wickets and four balls to spare.

    In November 2024, Aaryavir Sehwag scored a stunning 297 off 309 balls, laced with 51 fours and three sixes for Delhi against Meghalaya in the Cooch Behar Trophy. Celebrating the achievement, Sehwag wrote in a post on X:

    As for the Ferrari reference, during a 2015 interview, Virender Sehwag had promised that he would gift his kids the luxury car if they surpassed his 319-run mark, saying:

    “Yes, my kids know I have made some humongous scores in Test cricket. So I have told them, if you cross that 319-run mark even in school cricket, I will present you a Ferrari.”

    During his Test career, Virender Sehwag breached the 300-run mark twice, with his highest score of 319 coming against South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in 2008.
