Rohl can replace Naderi by unleashing Aaron Ramsey 2.0 in new Rangers role

After 32 Premiership games last season, Glasgow Rangers were sitting in second on 65 points, boasting a positive goal difference of 33.

After 32 league games of 2025/26, the picture looks rather similar, with the Ibrox side again in second, this time on 66 points, while having recorded a +32 goal difference.

The difference? Well, while Celtic looked to have run away with things a year ago, the Gers are firmly in the mix this time around, considering the one-point margin to leaders Hearts, while enjoying real positive momentum under new boss Danny Rohl.

With just a solitary league defeat since the German took charge, there is little to suggest that the Ibrox side won’t be in the title mix come May, having now won three successive games either side of the international break.

If there is to be anything that might derail the Ibrox train, however, it could well be injuries.

Rangers sweating on Ryan Naderi’s injury status

Luck is often the word when it comes to a title-winning side, particularly with regard to injuries, although the Gers haven’t had much of that, particularly in recent weeks.

While Rohl’s side romped to a 4-2 win regardless on Saturday afternoon, they had suffered the blow of losing Tuur Rommens to a muscle injury prior to the match, with the Belgian expected to miss at least the next two games.

That setback has been followed by the concern surrounding fellow January arrival, Ryan Naderi, with the 22-year-old withdrawn at half-time against Dundee United, after having previously opened the scoring.

Speaking post-match, Rohl revealed his concern over the striker’s fitness, following what was a largely positive first-half for the £4.7m man:

“Yeah, he was not okay. He’s got a little problem and hopefully it’s not too serious. He did really well for us and scored, which was nice to see.”

That has been followed by whispers that Naderi could now be out for the season, having been sent for a scan to determine the severity of that issue.

Reports have indicated that while he is moving unaided, he has trained separately from the first team this week, ensuring Rohl may need to find a different solution for this weekend’s clash with Falkirk.

The new Aaron Ramsey could replace Rohl at centre-forward

The obvious answer may well be to throw either Youssef Chermiti or Bojan Miovski back into the mix, particularly with the latter man having sealed the points last time out.

Rangers are reportedly interested in a deal to sign a star who could arrive as an upgrade on Youssef Chermiti.

That said, neither centre-forward has impressed on a consistent basis this season, with Chermiti failing to score since the Old Firm derby at Ibrox in the league, while Miovski has scored just five Premiership goals thus far.

With that in mind, one option might well be to relocate January arrival Andreas Skov Olsen into a new-look role through the middle, with the 26-year-old having previously operated as a number ten or second striker in his career.

Now, at present, the Dane currently falls into the Aaron Ramsey category as another high-profile January loan arrival who hasn’t delivered as expected, scoring just once and registering just three assists in his first ten games for the club.

The on-loan Wolfsburg man did provide the assist for Dujon Sterling at the weekend, although he was subsequently hooked at the break, following another muted outing on the right flank.

With Djeidi Gassama, who provided three key passes and completed 100% of his passing, looking so lively in his place in the second half, that right-wing berth could be the 22-year-old’s to lose, leaving Skov Olsen needing to find a new home in this Rangers attack.

Perhaps he merely needs to be shackled to the bench, although the former Club Brugge star might well be a similar mould of forward to Naderi, someone who can drop deep to link play, yet has the goalscoring knack to thrive in the penalty area, as seen in his 49 goals in 124 games in Belgium.

He appears to lack the pace and mobility to truly flourish out wide, yet if deployed centrally, supported by both Mikey Moore and Gassama, it could well spark something of a revival for the struggling star.

In the case of the aforementioned Ramsey, he never really showcased why he should be kept on permanently, the now-retired Welshman registering a similar tally of just four goal involvements in his 13 games at Ibrox, while infamously missing the crucial spot-kick in the Europa League final.

Skov Olsen, whose deal includes an option to buy of around £8-£9m, is in danger of heading for a similar story, with this positional switch potentially his last chance to get going in a Rangers shirt.
