Rangers now in active negotiations to sign “excellent” defensive star this summer

With Lawrence Shankland signed and sealed, Rangers have continued talks to sign a key defensive reinforcement to kick their summer off in style.

If anyone around Scotland thought the 49ers were losing faith in Danny Rohl, then they can think again. They’re ready to back their man in full in his first summer transfer window and have already kicked off their business with Shankland.

The controversial move significantly weakens Hearts and hands the Gers a much-needed solution in search of consistent goals. But they’re not done yet.

Josh Windass could also complete a return to the club from Wrexham, plus a defensive reinforcement could be on the cards in three rapid-fire moves.

According to TeamTalk, Rangers are in active talks to sign Akpe Victory from Zalaegerszeg this summer. Negotiations are accelerating and Ibrox chiefs could launch a formal offer sooner rather than later.

Rohl is reportedly prioritising the addition of stability to his backline, amid rumours that Premier League sides could swoop in to sign Emmanuel Fernandez.

The defender recovered after a difficult start in Scotland to become a key player and that did not go unnoticed, with Premier League champions Arsenal reportedly eyeing his signature.

Replacing the centre-back won’t be easy if he does head for the exit door, but Victory could be a solid candidate. He’s just 19-years-old and has already earned praise from Jacek Kulig, with the talent scout dubbing him “excellent” back in April.

As an emerging talent, he could develop into the real deal under Rohl’s guidance at Ibrox.

    Rohl “delighted” by Shankland arrival

Rangers have had Shankland on their radar for some time now, but it makes his move all the more sweeter that Hearts are now direct title rivals.

After welcoming the impressive striker, Rohl expressed his delight – telling Rangers’ official website: “We are delighted to have Lawrence join Rangers. He is a player with proven quality, leadership and work ethic, and his goalscoring record in Scotland speaks for itself.

“He understands the demands and expectations that come with playing for Rangers, and we believe his character and experience will be a huge asset for the group. I wish him well at the World Cup this summer, and look forward to welcoming him back to Glasgow during pre-season.”

The striker then added: “I am delighted to be here and to have this opportunity. Rangers is my boyhood club, and it has always been a dream to play here, so I was really keen to get it done.”
