The Gujarat Titans barely caught a break after their rough loss in the IPL 2026 final. Just as they were trying to move past it, their team bus suddenly caught fire. Turns out, a short circuit was the culprit. Thankfully, everyone got out fast—no one was hurt. The fire broke out Sunday night while the team was on their way back from the Narendra Modi Stadium to their hotel in Ahmedabad. Players ended up stranded on the roadside for about an hour, certainly not how they imagined their night going.
Honestly, things could’ve gone really wrong, but all the players are fine. Even so, the incident just added to an already awful night. Earlier, Gujarat Titans had lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets in the final—a tough pill to swallow.
This wasn’t their only travel headache either. The Titans had bounced from Dharamsala to Mullanpur on May 27 to face Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 on May 29. Then, bad weather held up their flight to Ahmedabad on May 30, so they didn’t get in until late Saturday night.
With all that travel, you have to wonder if fatigue played into their loss against RCB in the final. But Vikram Solanki, the team’s Director of Cricket, wouldn’t use it as an excuse. “I don’t want to take away from RCB’s win by just saying we were tired from too many games in too few days. That’s not what we’re about,” he said at the post-match press conference.
He admitted that their total—155 for 8—was below par, but he liked the effort his side showed defending it. “Of course, we’ll look back and think about what we could have done differently. That’s just part of the game. But sometimes, you just have to admit the other side played better,” Solanki added.
