Diablo 4’s latest expansion adds the Horadric Cube, allowing you to craft fully customized gear with the affixes you want. However, the usability of the item isn’t limited to crafting. With proper materials, it can combine multiple items to make Legendaries or Uniques.
The Horadric Cube has been around since Diablo 2, but if Diablo 4 is your first game in the franchise, this guide will help you understand how it works and everything you can do with it. Do note that the item is tied to the Lord of Hatred expansion and requires the DLC. To unlock it, all you need to do is progress through the new story campaign.

There are multiple ways to approach crafting when using the Horadric Cube. You can choose to make items from scratch or use recipes to modify existing items. The crafting recipes are divided into three sections, and here’s a full breakdown of what each one does and the materials required.
1) Gear modification

Everything within the Gear Modification section of the Horadric Cube in Diablo 4 deals with modifying the gear you equip. The recipes within are handy once you have access to the feature, allowing you to upgrade gear however you like.
As the name suggests, this crafting option adds a random affix to an item. The rarity of the item doesn’t matter as long as it can hold one. If you’re starting from scratch (white item), adding more and more will increase its quality up to Rare.
This crafting option may sound fancy, but all it does is randomly reroll one of the affixes. The result of a Defensive affix will always result in another Defensive affix, but you don’t get to choose, so there’s a risk of losing a good roll on an item.

The opposite of Add Affix, this crafting method allows you to empty a slot on an item. While it may sound tempting to remove a bad roll from high-level items, this feature only works on Magic or Rare items. It’s a good option for high-quality base items, which you can use to craft into Legendaries.
This crafting option adds a modifier to Legendary, Unique, or Mythic rarity gear. The affix you get can be very strong, but it comes with a tradeoff. Once done, you can’t modify the item anymore. Additionally, the process requires Volatile Primordial Dust, which can be hard to come by.
Got a unique item with really good affixes, then this crafting option will let you improve its power level. The catch is, despite the name, it only works with Ancestral Unique items.

The Item Transmutation section is all about changing one thing into another, often within the same item category and rarity, but sometimes the results can vary. Most of the recipes are best utilized in the endgame when you have plenty of items, but not the ones you want.

What it does
3 to 1 Transmutation
3x Items of the same type
One of the most popular ways to get a new item is trading three of the same type for a random one. Diablo 4 is all about loot, and having experienced it firsthand, it’s safe to say you’ll get a lot of junk. And instead of throwing them, this crafting option allows you to get new ones.
Recycle Uniques
3x Same Unique item
Same as the 3 to 1 Transmutation, this crafting recipe allows you to trade three of the same Unique items for a new one with randomly rerolled affixes. It’s great if you’re target farming uniques and want to get perfect rolls for the build.
Upgrade to Unique
– 1x Common Item – 1x Enhanced Primordial Dust – 10x Raw Primordial Dust
As simple as the name suggests, with proper crafting items, you can turn your common item into a Unique. Like many other crafting recipes, the outcome is completely random. However, an accessory item will always turn something into the same category.
Upgrade to Legendary
– 1x Rare Item – 1x Pure Primordial Dust – 10x Raw Primordial Dust – 1x Tuning Prism (Optional)
Same as the Unique transformation, this method allows you to turn your rare items into Legendaries. While it’s not mentioned, the process can also result in items changing into Ancestral Legendaries.
Reroll Set Charm
– 1x Set Charm – 25x Raw Primordial Dust – 50x Infused Horadric Resin
Charms can drop with two random affixes, and if you don’t like them, this Horadric Cube recipe will let you change them. It’s great for rolling additional skill levels to min-max your builds for the endgame difficulties.
This crafting recipe allows you to make Unique Charms, which can roll with different Aspects, making your build much stronger. However, it’s one of the most expensive crafts in the Horadric Cube with random outcomes.
Amalgamation
5x Items of the same type and rarity
Combine up to five of the same items to get an upgraded variant. Note that the method does not work for gear.
3) Rune Crafting

Runes are yet another important aspect of a build, granting you various passive bonuses. Using the Horadric Cube, you can target craft specific Runes you need for a build, making this a lot easier. Here are all the recipes within:
