PIF now actively ‘watching’ £43m Newcastle target who could replace Gordon

PIF are now actively ‘watching’ Donyell Malen, as rumours continue to arrive over Anthony Gordon’s immediate Newcastle United future.

Romano shares “serious” update on Gordon’s future

It’s been a season to forget for Newcastle. They’ve fallen behind rivals Sunderland and are closer to the relegation zone than Champions League qualification with only a handful of games remaining.

Better than Anderson: Newcastle have had talks to sign £70m British star

Newcastle are ready to launch a concerted bid for an elite midfielder this summer.

Serious concerns have emerged over Eddie Howe‘s future, but it’s not just the manager who might be heading for the exit door this summer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to his YouTube to share an update on Gordon’s future in Tyneside, claiming that there’s a “serious” chance that he leaves in the coming months.

That could come courtesy of Bayern Munich, of course. The German giants have reportedly been in contact with Newcastle about a move for the forward since February and those rumours look unlikely to go away anytime soon.

Less than 12 months since Alexander Isak completed a record move away from St James’ Park, another attacking exit would come as a major blow. It is, however, the consequences that Newcastle are increasingly likely to face as they head towards a season without European football.

Replacing Gordon won’t be an easy task, either. The Magpies have already got plenty to make up for in the recruitment department following last summer’s disastrous arrivals, and that may well start with signing an exciting attacker.

    Newcastle chiefs ‘watching’ Donyell Malen

As reported by Corriere dello Sport and relayed by Sport Witness, PIF are now actively ‘watching’ Malen and Newcastle could yet make their move to sign the Dutchman this summer.

Whilst he remains an Aston Villa player on paper, Roma are almost certain to make his loan move permanent at the end of the season, before attempting to fend off interest from those at St James’ Park.

As such, the deal is unlikely to come cheap. Reports in Italy are claiming that Roma are set to name an asking price worth as much as €50m (£43m) in the coming months following what has been an excellent loan spell.

11 of Malen’s 19 goals in all competitions have arrived in the Serie A. He has been a revelation ever since arriving in Italy, with Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini describing the forward as “extraordinary”.

If he were to bring that form back to the Premier League, then Newcastle would have an instant upgrade on Gordon for a far cheaper price. The Dutchman has outperformed the Magpies winger in every key department this season.

The fact that he also shares an agent with Tino Livramento is only another boost in Newcastle’s pursuit. If they turn their interest into an offer, then there’s every chance a deal could take place.
