Pablo Carreno Busta vs Thiago Agustin Tirante preview

Former top 10 player Pablo Carreno Busta will square off against Thiago Agustin Tirante in the third round of the French Open 2026.
Carreno Busta upset 12th seed Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach the second round, where Thanasi Kokkinakis awaited him. The pair split the first couple of sets to remain on even terms. Unfortunately, Kokkinakis couldn’t continue after that, opting to retire after playing one game in the third set, thus paving the way for Carreno Busta to advance to the next round.
Tirante scored a four-set win over Pablo Llamas Ruiz to set up a second-round date with 21st seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Tirante found himself on the backfoot in the first set after falling behind 1-5. He put up a fight with a three-game run but still lost the set.
The second set almost slipped out of Tirante’s grasp as well. However, he stopped Davidovich Fokina from serving out the set in the 10th game, and eventually came out on top in the tie-break to take the set. Tirante dropped only one game to capture the third set in a rush. He carried this momentum into the fourth set, capitalizing on a single break of serve to register a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1, 6-3 win.

Pablo Carreno Busta vs Thiago Agustin Tirante prediction

Kokkinakis’ misfortune proved to be Carreno Busta’s gain, who’s into the third round of a Major for the first time since the US Open 2022. He improved his record on clay this season to 3-2 on the main tour. He won a Challenger title on clay in March, and finished as the runner-up at another Challenger event as well. He’s a two-time quarterfinalist in Paris.
Tirante has made the third round of a Major for the first time. He has 13-6 record on clay this season, with a semifinal finish in Houston being the highlight. He also beat World No. 9 Ben Shelton on clay a month ago, and has two more top 20 wins on the red dirt this year.
Carreno Busta’s experience in making the second week of the French Open could prove to be crucial here. However, Tirante has outperformed the Spaniard throughout the clay swing. Unless nerves get the better of him, he should be able to handle whatever Carreno Busta throws at him.
Pick: Thiago Agustin Tirante to win in four sets.
