Wayne Rooney tells Manchester United to complete ‘absolute no-brainer’ signing from Premier League rivals

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged the Red Devils to sign Myles-Lewis Skelly from Arsenal, if he’s up for sale this summer. Last week, reports claimed the Gunners offered Lewis-Skelly to Chelsea and Manchester United after the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes.

The versatile 19-year-old star impressed in the Community Shield triumph against Manchester City on Sunday, grabbing the assist for Riccardo Calafiori’s opening goal. Lewis-Skelly fits Manchester United perfectly since the Premier League giants are still believed to be on the hunt for a new left-back, and a third midfielder after the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Rooney highlighted how Lewis-Skelly can play both the positions that United need to strengthen and called the signing ‘an absolute no-brainer’. The footballer-turned-pundit admitted that selling the teenager would be a bad look on Arsenal, but stated he can understand if they did it.

Speaking on the first episode of The Overlap’s new ‘Stick to United’ show, Rooney commented:

“Lewis Skelly, we’re hearing that he is available for not much money, I think it’s an absolute no-brainer (to sign him).

“If you can get a player that can play left back and central midfield. He’s young and he’s got a massive future ahead of him, I think that’s an absolute no-brainer if you can bring him in.

“Arsenal have spent a lot over the last couple of years, there’s him and Nwaneri as well and it would be pure profit for those two players.

“It’s not a great look for Arsenal but I can see why they might need to sell. But if you’re United and a player like Lewis-Skelly becomes available…”

Lewis-Skelly, who has represented England at senior level, has a contract with Arsenal that runs until 2030.

Manchester United forced to make changes to jersey due to UEFA rule, issue statement

Ahead of their much-awaited return to the Champions League, Manchester United have confirmed that the club will tweak their third kit to comply to a UEFA rule. The Red Devils’ third kit sports a clean and aesthetic Snapdragon logo without the wording, unlike in the home and away kits for the season.

As per UEFA’s rule, all shirts worn in the Champions League must be consistent. Hence, Manchester United will add the Snapdragon wording to the third kit as well to maintain synergy with the other two shirts.

The Premier League giants confirmed in a statement:

“The Reds are due to sport the jersey when required across domestic competition this term, although UEFA rules mean that the ‘Snapdragon’ wordmark will be added to our players’ shirts for any Champions League matches it is worn in.

“This is because the same version of a logo must be used across all of a club’s kits in the tournament, so the sponsor on the third strip needs to match that on our new home and away releases, which feature the wordmark.”

Manchester United finished third in the Premier League last season, seven points behind rivals Manchester City.
