Mohammed Shami knows how to start things off with a bang, the veteran pacer has been right on the mark with his bowling during the opening fixture of the IPL 2023 game against the Chennai Super Kings. While Ruturaj Gaikwad got off to a good start, his partner Devon Conway looked like he was struggling to get a touch on the ball.
Mohammad Shami, who returned for his second over in the third over of the game, gave Conway no time to settle at the middle as he bowled in an absolute ripper that sent the batter’s stumps flying away. Shami for the wicket pitched in a brilliant good length delivery that came in towards the left-hander who tried to drive the ball away.

However, Devon Conway failed to any part of his bat on the delivery as the ball moved in between his bat and pads and hit right on the money as it sent the middle and off stumps rickrolling to the keeper as the batter departed contributing just a single run to CSK’s 13 runs on the board for the opening partnership.

While Mohammad Shami started things off on a positive note, the same could be said for Chennai’s Ruturaj Gaikwad who is looking in great touch so far. The batter has done the bulk of the job for his side scoring 23 runs off 11 deliveries in the first 4 overs. Moeen Ali on the other hand who came in after Conway’s dismissal has taken a slow approach managing 4 runs off 7 deliveries.
Gujarat will hope that Mohammed Shami in his remaining two overs can provide Gujarat with a few more breakthroughs in this contest. As of writing the Super Kings have managed to put up 29 runs at the loss of a single wicket. Mohammed Shami has been the only wicket-taker so far in this contest.
