Iga Swiatek’s ex-coach, Wim Fissette, opened up about the dynamics of the Pole’s relationship with her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz. Swiatek parted ways with the Belgian coach soon after her surprise loss in Miami.
Swiatek teamed up with Fissette late in 2024, and the partnership delivered results, including three titles and a long-awaited Wimbledon crown. Yet, consistency continued to slip away for the Pole.
Thanks for the submission!
The turning point came in Miami, where her streak of 73 consecutive first-round wins ended with a loss to Magda Linette, a result that felt like the final blow. She said in an interview later that she was low on confidence during the period.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with the New York Times, Fissette opened up about his time with the Pole. He was a new member in a team full of people who had been there for a while, including Abramowicz and Swiatek’s physiotherapist, Maciej Ryszczuk. Fissette explained how a language barrier was an issue.
It was observed that during matches, she seemed more engaged with Abramowicz, communicating in Polish, while Fissette struggled to consistently get through to her. The tension was visible at both Indian Wells and Miami, where the World No. 4 and Abramowicz were seen in animated exchanges mid-match.
Fissette, however, expressed understanding of the dynamic.
“She has been working with the same people for a lot of years, and she’s been super successful for years,” he said. “It’s normal that in, let’s say, challenging times, that she kind of goes back to these people or maybe wants more from these people.”
In recent weeks, Swiatek’s relationship with Abramowicz has come under increased scrutiny. Visible on-court frustration, heated exchanges with her team, and fan backlash have all fueled the conversation.
While Iga Swiatek has publicly backed Abramowicz, the situation has brought about questions around influence and balance within her camp during a difficult run of form.
Iga Swiatek joins forces with Francisco Roig after Wim Fissette split

Soon after announcing her split with Belgian coach Wim Fissette, Iga Swiatek has hired the services of Francisco Roig. The Spaniard was previously part of her idol, Rafael Nadal’s team. Roig helped Nadal win all 22 of his Grand Slam titles before moving on to other players.
The Spanish coach guided Matteo Berrettini to several titles in 2024 and took on the role of coaching former Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu. The stint with the Brit was shortlived and he has now been acquired by Swiatek.
The Pole holds a 12-6 record in 2026, which is underwhelming by her standards. She is yet to cross the quarterfinal stage in singles competition this year. With Roig, she will step into the clay season. It is her favorite surface, and with Roig’s experience of helping Nadal become ‘King of Clay,’ this partnership could be all Swiatek needs to come back on top.
