‘Dream come true’: 18yo Socceroos star ‘buzzing’ as record Australian football PL deal confirmed

Socceroos defender Lucas Herrington says it will be “a dream come true” to play in the English Premier League after signing with newly promoted Hull City in a deal that has reportedly made him the most expensive Australian footballer of all-time.

Herrington, 18, has joined the Tigers on a five-year deal from American Major Soccer League club Colorado Rapids.

While the official fee remains undisclosed, it’s a package reportedly worth $33 million.

“I’m buzzing to be here,” said former Brisbane Roar centre-back Herrington, who started in two matches for the Socceroos at the recent FIFA World Cup.

“The opportunity to play in the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world, is a dream come true.

“I’ve woken up at all hours in the morning in Australia to watch these games. To be a part of it is so special.

“To hear from the club and coaching staff has been so exciting for me. I can’t wait to meet all the boys and the fans.

“I’m here to work hard and hopefully get a lot of games in the Premier League.”

Herrington said his Socceroos teammate, former Hull City midfielder Jackson Irvine, had spoken glowing about the Tigers.

“I spoke to ‘Jacko’, and he said very good things about the club and the area. He loved his time here,” Queenslander Herrington said.

“To hear that from him, after being with him at the World Cup, gave me a sense of calmness.

“ I’m really looking forward to the first game against Manchester United (on August 22). I can’t wait to get started.”
