The ‘200-Ks in 1st or 2nd season’ quiz

This time last season, Cam Schlittler had nine MLB starts to his name.

Now, he’s closing in on the American League Cy Young after another eight dominant innings, striking out nine, walking none and allowing just one run on two hits in the New York Yankees 6-3 extra-inning win.

The Yankees needed every out from the 25 year old with the offense scoring just one run in regulation before a barrage of singles in the top of the 10th gave them a big enough lead for Michael Fulmer to defend.

Dylan Cease – his main competition for the Cy Young – twirled a gem of his own in Toronto’s 11-0 win over Cleveland, throwing six shutout innings with four strikeouts to bring his season total to 221. But most other numbers favor Schlittler, who has a higher WAR, more innings pitched, more wins and a lower ERA than Cease despite the 11-strikeout gap.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Schlittler has already joined the exclusive club of pitchers to eclipse 200 strikeouts in a season in at least one of their first two Big League campaigns. How many of those pitchers can you name in five minutes?

    Good luck!
