However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia’s comments after the review meeting have now given Rohit and his fans a major reason to be happy.
When asked about the speculation surrounding Rohit’s future, Saikia backed the former India captain and pointed towards the way he is currently performing.

Speaking about Rohit’s future and the rumours surrounding him, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said:
“What are you talking, man? Aren’t you seeing how he is playing?”
Saikia also made it clear that people should not believe every rumour surrounding Rohit’s future.
His response came at a time when there had been constant discussion over whether Rohit would continue to remain in India’s plans going forward.
For Rohit and his fans, Saikia’s comments are certainly good news.
Questions Over Rohit Sharma’s Future Started After Champions Trophy 2025
Very few would have expected so many questions to be raised over Rohit’s future after the 2025 Champions Trophy.
India had won the tournament under Rohit’s captaincy. Before that, he had also led the Indian team to the 2024 T20 World Cup title.
After those two ICC trophies, many expected Rohit to continue leading India’s ODI side towards the 2027 World Cup.
However, things changed when Rohit lost the ODI captaincy.
Even after that, there was an expectation that as long as Rohit continued scoring runs, he would remain an important part of India’s ODI setup.

Several reports suggested that the selectors could move on from Rohit and that the Lord’s ODI might even be his final appearance in the format.
There was also discussion around the possibility of Rohit announcing his ODI retirement at Lord’s.
But Rohit had different plans.
The Indian opener produced a brilliant century at Lord’s.
He scored 138 and once again answered the questions surrounding his place in the Indian team with his bat.
After an innings like that, it became much more difficult to question whether Rohit still had the ability to perform at the highest level.
