    Lane Kiffin’s tenure with the LSU Tigers got off in style as the program crushed the Clemson Tigers 51-10 in the season opener in front of over 100,000 fans on Saturday. LSU allowed a field goal in the second minute of the game and then went on to score 51 points before letting Clemson disturb the scoreboard.

    Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver heaped praise on Kiffin after LSU’s dominating win over Clemson.

    “Put some respect on Lane Kiffin’s name. LSU is for real!💪🏿,” Bryant tweeted.

    The win comes after a controversial summer for Kiffin. From leaving Ole Miss to getting backlash from other programs for bringing in players who had just been cut from NFL training camps, his entire summer was a massive headline.

    Clemson’s coach, Dabo Swinney, had called the state of college recruiting and the push for pro players embarrassing for the sport. The whole drama likely made the win even sweeter for Kiffin and LSU.

    Kiffin’s rebuilt lineup completely outclassed Swinney’s program. Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt moved the ball at will against Clemson’s defense. LSU’s defensive front made life miserable for Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina.

    Near the end of the first quarter, edge rusher Jordan Ross intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a pick-six, extending LSU’s lead to 17-3. By halftime, the margin was 31-3, and the Tigers never let off the gas in a 41-point win.

    Lane Kiffin explains LSU decision on former NFL players

    Lane Kiffin’s LSU has two former NFL players on its roster in tight end Dae’Quan Wright and defensive tackle Zxavian Harris. Neither player featured in the program’s season opener on Saturday. The Tigers’ coach shared his stance on the duo during Saturday’s episode of College GameDay.

    “I believe that you fight for what you believe in, and I believe these kids have an opportunity to play. Just like all the other kids around the country that are winning court cases and being put on rosters. But at the same time, I’m the head coach of LSU, and I had to make a decision that is for the big picture of LSU and the LSU football program.”

    LSU’s decision to bring in former NFL players has drawn criticism from several coaches. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian called the approach morally wrong.
