Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder Kyle Jamieson has been handed a demerit point, and a warning by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for aggressive celebrations after dismissing Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The New Zealand pacer had castled the prodigal batter in his first over during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Friday, May 1.
During the first innings of the contest, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had kick-started his innings with a boundary off Kyle Jamieson in trademark fashion. The pacer responded strongly, outfoxing the youngster with a slow yorker to castle him. The dismissal, which reduced RR to 12-2 inside two overs, brought out a massive send-off from the DC star.
Not many bowlers have had the upper hand against Suryavanshi this season, and Jamieson’s moment of joy and the way he expressed it, has come back to bite him. The BCCI officially confirmed that the DC all-rounder committed a Level 1 breach with his actions.
“Kyle Jamieson, Bowler, Delhi Capitals, has accumulated one Demerit Point and received a warning for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 43 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Jamieson was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the match,” an official statement on iplt20.com reads.
“The incident occurred in the second over of the first innings, when, after dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Jamieson was found to be close to him in an aggressive manner, which could have provoked an aggressive reaction from the batter. Jamieson admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee, Rajeev Seth,” the statement added.
Suryavanshi’s dismissal ended up being the sole highlight in Jamieson’s spell as he ended up with dismal figures of 1-48 off four overs for DC.
DC’s Kyle Jamieson has been fined multiple times in the past for poor conduct on the field
Kyle Jamieson has been reprimanded on several occasions in the past, while playing for New Zealand in international cricket. In 2020, he was fined 25 percent of his match fee for throwing a ball at a player in a Test against Pakistan.
In addition, he has been found guilty of similar offences in 2021 and 2022 as well, where he used inappropriate language and also showed dissent at an umpire’s decision.
